I'm no novice when it comes to getting a beauty treatment, I love taking care of myself and looking my best, but with so many treatments on the every growing market, how do you know which one is right for you? Well the first step is finding the right doctor and clinic that has skill and expertise in their field.

I chose to go with Dr Leah Smith who runs a beautiful, cosy and minimalist clinic called, My Beauty Doctor in the heart of Yorkville, Toronto. What drew me to the clinic was firstly Dr Leah herself, she honestly has a heart of gold, secondly I loved their mission statement, that read "My Beauty Doctor exists to banish the stigma, judgment, and secrecy around the medical aesthetics industry. We strive to empower our community to take ownership of their bodies, their choices, and their lives." This truly resonated with me.

Due to Covid there was a lengthy waitlist, which is always a good sign. I had a virtual appointment with Dr Leah herself and went through my skin concerns and she recommended what she thought would work best for me. I also wanted to find someone that knew how to treat black skin so it was very important that we connected on this level. I was left satisfied after my virtual consult and I waited it out and before I knew it my appointment day had arrived.

We opted for the 'PRP Microneedling" treatment, also known as the Vampire facial, made famous by Kim Kardashian. This is a cosmetic treatment that involves drawing blood from your arm (so if you hate blood this probably wont be the treatment for you) separating platlets through a very snazzy machine and applying them back into your face. PRP has a large concentration of growth factors, helping tissue to heal and repair, treating all types of skin issues. I was so glad we had chose this option as it was a more natural approach however should she had chosen a non natural, I would've also been happy to go with that option, its all about making better decisions where you can.

The benefits of this treatment are endless from, younger looking skin, reduced fine lines, reduced acne scarring and the list goes on. I actually really enjoyed the process of the treatment and love when I can feel a treatment or skincare working, they don't say beauty is pain for nothing.

I would say the pain was a 5 out of 10 if that, there were definitely more sensitive parts of the face for sure, but I was made to feel comfortable and that the results would be worth it. Directly after my face was quite sore and red but nothing to get the violins out for. My Beauty Doctor provides you with a full post treatment kit and thoroughly takes you through the aftercare process. Aftercare was pretty straight forward and soreness subsided within 24 hours but please be aware everyone is different.

Well all I can say is that this treatment is certainly worth all the hype. I was astounded with my results and began to see changes within in a week, the glow up was real. By week five I felt I had reached the peak of the treatment and decided to take some after pictures of an area of scarring I had and WOW! I'll let the photo do the talking.

My results after one treatment

I admit this treatment will set you back a few coin, I do feel like its worth it if you can afford to get multiple treatments for optimum results. I definitely will be saving up to get my next hit. Overall I would give this treatment a 9/10, it truly is fantastic, worth the money and the downtime.
